LANDING PAGE CONVERSION TIPS

7 Reasons Your B2B Landing Page Isn't Converting (And How to Fix Them)

Your landing page is getting traffic, but visitors aren't converting. It's one of the most frustrating problems in B2B marketing — because the issue is rarely obvious. Here are the seven most common reasons a B2B landing page fails to convert, and exactly what to do about each one.

01

Your headline is too vague

The most common B2B landing page mistake is a headline that tries to speak to everyone — and ends up speaking to no one. Phrases like "Work smarter, not harder" or "The platform for modern teams" are invisible. They contain no specific audience, no measurable outcome, and no reason to keep reading.

Fix it: Your headline should answer three questions in one sentence: Who is this for? What does it do? What is the outcome? Example: "Cut agency project delays by 40% — or your money back." Specific. Audience-first. Outcome-led.

02

No social proof above the fold

Most B2B buyers are skeptical. They've been burned by tools that overpromised. Before they read a single feature bullet, they're asking: "Who else uses this? Are they like me? Did it actually work?"

If your hero section has zero logos, testimonials, or review counts, you're asking visitors to trust you before you've given them any reason to.

Fix it: Place 3–5 recognizable customer logos directly below your hero CTA. A short quote from a customer — "Reduced our onboarding time by half" with a real name and company — outperforms any copywritten headline.

03

Your CTA is weak (or there are too many)

"Learn More" is the graveyard of conversions. It creates no urgency, promises no outcome, and doesn't tell the visitor what happens next. Meanwhile, some pages commit the opposite sin: five different CTAs competing for attention — "Start free", "Book a demo", "Watch a video", "Read case study", "Download guide."

Fix it: One primary CTA, outcome-oriented. "Start free — no credit card" works because it names the action (start), removes the friction (no credit card), and implies an outcome (you'll see results). Put it above the fold and repeat it twice more down the page.

04

Too many friction points

Every field in your form, every step in your flow, and every decision you ask a visitor to make is friction. B2B pages routinely ask for company size, team budget, phone number, and use case — before the visitor has seen a single result.

Fix it: Run a B2B landing page audit focused on your conversion path. Count every click, every field, every decision between your headline and the user getting value. Then cut half. If you need qualification data, collect it after your first value delivery — not before.

05

Wrong ICP messaging

"For teams" means nothing. Every B2B tool is "for teams." The moment a visitor reads a vague ICP descriptor, they wonder: "Is this actually for someone like me?" — and usually decide it isn't.

Fix it: Get specific. "For agency project managers running 5+ client accounts" is better than "for teams." Name the pain, the role, and the context. Your conversion rate will drop slightly for people who don't fit — and spike for those who do. That's the trade-off you want.

06

No urgency

Without a reason to act now, visitors bookmark the page and never come back. This is especially true in B2B, where buying decisions involve multiple stakeholders and extended consideration cycles. Every day you let them "think about it" is a day a competitor can close them.

Fix it: Urgency doesn't have to be fake. A free trial countdown ("Free plan closes Friday"), a limited early-access cohort, a risk reversal ("Full refund if you don't see results in 14 days"), or simply naming what they're losing every month they delay ("The average B2B page loses 60% of visitors in the first 8 seconds") — all drive action without manufactured pressure.

07

Slow load time

Google research shows a 1-second delay in mobile load time reduces conversions by up to 20%. For B2B pages relying on organic traffic, a slow page is also a ranking penalty — meaning fewer visitors before anyone even gets the chance to convert.

Fix it: Run a Core Web Vitals check and prioritize LCP (Largest Contentful Paint). Common culprits: unoptimized hero images, third-party scripts (chat widgets, tag managers, analytics), and fonts loading synchronously. Aim for LCP under 2.5 seconds. A landing page that scores in the green on Core Web Vitals will outrank — and out-convert — a prettier page that loads in 5 seconds.

The fastest way to find your biggest leak

Most landing pages suffer from two or three of these problems simultaneously — but in different places and at different severity levels. You could spend weeks running A/B tests to find them, or you can get a B2B landing page audit that pinpoints the top issues in 60 seconds.

PageFlame analyzes your page against conversion best practices, scores each area (headline clarity, social proof, CTA strength, value proposition), and delivers a prioritized fix list — so you know exactly where to start.
